Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Unfortunately, we are not shipping internationally at this time. We’ll post updates and changes to our shipping policies as soon as they are available.
We keep a tight rein on our in-stock inventory. Our goal is to either ship your order within one business or to contact you about anticipated wait times, within 24 business hours. Receiving your order depends on where you are and the shipping method you selected. Economy ground shipping is on us and free to you; expect them to take 5-7 business days to arrive. Delivery details will be provided in your confirmation email.
Jealous Helen is for grown-ups; we are not a children’s accessories company. As a California company, we are bound by applicable state law to define children as anyone under the age of 15 years old. We think of our clientele as professionals with refined taste and a desire for elevated daily essentials, and as long as you're over 15 you can decide for yourself if that's you.
It depends on the severity of your allergy; we do not guarantee our pieces to be nickel-free. For most customers, the risk may be mitigated by wearing these pieces on your hair and not directly contacting your skin or scalp. You can also use our Buy-Back Program to replace pieces if the plating wears off. Our Naked Venus singlet, for example, is made from natural pearls, elastic cord and our electroplated stainless steel logo bead. But both founders have children with serious allergies, and we don't mess around with this. Despite our vendor's assurances, we think there is some risk that even our stainless steel logo beads do contain some nickel. So, since we would rather lose your sale than lose your trust, we choose to be extra rigorous with our allergy claims.

Something we plan to announce in the coming months: a completely new, patent-pending design for a hair tie that holds securely, looks gorgeous, and gives you unprecedented flexibility. We’ll also be rolling out beautiful new colorways for our entire family of hair ties and expanding our collections of Ringlets and Barcitas. We will be launching a unique collection of symbolic charms, as well as collaborations with other jewelers. Come back to Jealous Helen for beautiful jewelry and hair accessories you will never find anywhere else!
We do all alterations and final product assembly by hand in our workshop in California. The constituent pieces are sourced from around the world, including China and the U.S. We are constantly evaluating our supply chain and may include pieces from Thailand, India, Brazil, Bulgaria, Japan, Ghana, Korea and more.
By offering you full store credit, we lose money on every return due to shipping products back and forth. You don't. That sucks for us, but it gives us the chance to make you happy - and that's our reason for being. We want you to love how you dress your hair, easily, beautifully, daily. We think you deserve it, and we think that's why you bought from us from the beginning. We value our relationship with you, and this is how we give you the best we have to offer.
We don’t know when your elastic will wear out … because we haven’t seen it happen yet! That might sound crazy, but let us explain. We hand-picked our elastic cord not just for its sleek design, but for its slender strength. Our cord is made with a central rubber core, plus two to four separate rubber strands woven into the outer thread jacket. That means even if one strand breaks, the rest of the cord is going strong. And, we’ve put extra thought into the construction process. When we create your Singlet, we pre-stretch the cord so if you wear it regularly, you’ll likely notice that it softens like your favorite jeans but not stretch out like cheaper hair ties. In addition, each Jealous Helen hair tie is hand-seamed and hand-tested before we send it out into the world. And with all that, if over time you want to replace the cord, try out our Re-Stringing Service as part of our Don’t Worry, Be Happy policies.
We can’t exactly answer this either, for the same reason. It hasn’t happened to our sample pieces! In our design processes, any charms that tarnished or quickly wore out were rejected before final approval. The result is that the pieces that make their way to you are only those that we judge to be long lasting and gentle on hair. We do subject test samples to treatment that technically isn’t recommended for jewelry, like sweating in them and showering with them. Ours are still going strong, (even though that isn’t the best way to ensure their longevity). Look, you deserve not to lock all your nice things away for some future occasion; you deserve to wear it out. And if you’re ever disappointed by how they last, be sure to tell us about it. Let us know what the conditions were like and what happened, because we do want to know and we will adjust our designs. Should the day come when the metal pieces no longer give you joy, then use our Buy Back Program as part of our Don’t Worry Be Happy!
These are our ways of making sure we get to have a relationship with you, not just a one-off sales transaction. We have a 14 day return policy for store credit. We have an open door policy to let you tell us what you think and what you want, whenever you want. We offer a Re-Stringing Service to replace the cord, and all you’ll pay is the shipping. We’ll contribute the replacement cord and the labor for free. Under our Buy Back Program, we’ll pay you to let us recycle any tarnished or worn out charms. We found a metals recycler in Los Angeles that works with brass, and silver, and even zinc alloys that have been plated. We want you to love your hair accessories, for them to make you happy whenever you pick them up and put them on any day of the week. And we want to have an ongoing conversation with you about how to make that happen.
You can contact us through our contact page! We will be happy to assist you.
